Whitley And Eggborough Community Primary School

Sport Premium

Sport and PE play a very important role at Whitley and Eggborough CP School.  We are committed to providing all children with the opportunity to participate and succeed in a wide range of sporting activities, in order to develop self-confidence, a competitive spirit and promote a healthy and active lifestyle.  Our pupils develop important key values such as teamwork, fair play and respect for themselves and each other.  At least two sessions each week are dedicated to physical activity.  There has been significant evidence to show the positive effects of sport and exercise on children’s physical health, growth and development.

In April 2013, the Government announced new funding called Sport Premium (SP) for physical education (PE) and sport, to improve the quality of provision in schools.

Sport Premium expenditure is monitored closely in term of levels of participation and its impact.

Possible uses of the funding include:

  • Paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport
  • Providing cover to release teachers for professional development training in PE/sport
  • Running sport competitions, or increasing participation of school games
  • Providing transport for pupils taking part in competitions

Children are also encouraged to take part in games and activities during play times and at lunch times where equipment is also available.  Additional healthy lifestyle activities are also provided in school, such as Bike Ability training and swimming lessons during KS2.

Year 2015/16 we were allocated £8958.00 + (£262.05 c/f 2014 – 15)
