How can you help at home?
Login to your Oxford Owl and read the story that has been set for your child (this matches their phonics stage). Access the free RWI library on there too and find your child's reading level. Don't forget to read a book together, this can be a firm family favourite or a new story, a great way to promote a love of reading.
This half term's Special Mention:
Week 1: Special mention goes to Finley A this week, for all the hard work you have done with your morning tasks. You have put in lots of effort with your handwriting practise and maths questions. Keep up the effort.
Week 2: Special mention goes to Darcie this week, for doing some amazing maths work and understanding how to make groups of 10s and 2s. You have also wrote a fantastic recount of your trip to the Railway Museum.
This half term's CHAS:
Week 1: Chas is going home with William today, this is for the wonderful manners you show adults in the class. You share lots of thoughtful ideas about whatever you are learning and really think deeply about your answers. You put lots of care and effort into your work. Well done.
Week 2: Chas is going to Harlow today, for being such a helpful and kind member of the class. She always shows great sharing when working in groups and always makes sure others have their turn. You set a good example for everyone, Well done Harlow.
What we've been doing this term:
We have started our new Mission with a trip to the National Railway Museum in York. We learnt all about George Stephenson and his Rocket. We looked at old and new trains. We could see how they have changed over time and this will help us in our future lessons.
We are so lucky to have a Woodland at our school. We do outdoor learning every other week, this week we got muddy! We learnt how mud separates in water, how to create mud sculptures of faces and how to add powder paint to change the colours.
We have kicked off our Mission all about Mary Anning this week with a visit from Dinostar! Steve brought his expertise in all things dinosaur and fossil. We saw some bones, skulls, eggs and hugh T-Rex footprints. We then had a day full of activities. These included: Fossil rubbing, fossil molding, ammonite swirls, drawing our own fossils on rocks, making fossil with white straws, carving fossils into potatoes and making prints with paint.
What a fantastic way to start our learning!
We have had an exciting time learning about weather this half term!
We have learnt about the UK and what countries that includes, learning about the continents and their names.
In Maths we have been learning to subtract and add, also learning how to measure length and height.
In English our book focus has been on 'The Storm Whale'. We have learnt lots of new vocabulary around whales like; pod, beached, fin. We acted out parts of the story and split it into three parts. Using our knowledge of the story, we pretended to be the main character and find the whale ourselves. The children wrote the story in the first person and have taken some pictures with the green screen.
