How can you help at home?

Login to your Oxford Owl and read the story that has been set for your child (this matches their phonics stage). Access the free RWI library on there too and find your child's reading level. Don't forget to read a book together, this can be a firm family favourite or a new story, a great way to promote a love of reading.

This half term's Special Mention:

Week 1: Special mention goes to Edie this week for really impressing her teacher in phonics. She has made some good spelling choices and even had a go at spelling longer words and getting them correct! We are so proud of all the hard work you are putting in with this and your reading too, keep it up Edie.

Week 2: Special mention this week goes to Gracie-May for her fabulous effort in her phonics lessons. All of the adults who work with Gracie have been noticing how hard she works, and her effort is really paying off. A huge well done to you.

Week 3: Special mention goes to Etinosa this week, this is for the landscape painting background you have made. You took your time to use the paint and brush strokes carefully. Your background looks fantastic and we can’t wait to see your finished piece.

This half term's CHAS:

Week 1:This week Chas goes home with Archie Tate for being such a lovely friend! Archie saw that his friend was sitting on the running track after having fallen over, and took the time to get him up and make sure that he wasn’t going to be run into. Thank you for being so caring and  thoughtful Archie T!

Week 2: Chas is going to Archie Jones this week for all his help in computing. Archie was able to type and search for a program on the chromebooks and helped all his friends to do it too. Well done.

Week 3: Chas is going to Oscar Harwood, this is for all your hard work in lessons and impressing us with how well you work with others. You are a patient and caring member of the class and always support others. Well done!

What we've been doing this term:

Summer 2:

Summer 1:

We have started our new Mission with a trip to the National Railway Museum in York. We learnt all about George Stephenson and his Rocket. We looked at old and new trains. We could see how they have changed over time and this will help us in our future lessons.

We have designed puppets, testing joining materials, cutting out using our templates and decorating them.

We also have fun celebrating the Queen's Jubilee!

We are so lucky to have a Woodland at our school. We do outdoor learning every other week, this week we got muddy! We learnt how mud separates in water, how to create mud sculptures of faces and how to add powder paint to change the colours.

Spring 2:

We have kicked off our Mission all about Mary Anning this week with a visit from Dinostar! Steve brought his expertise in all things dinosaur and fossil. We saw some bones, skulls, eggs and hugh T-Rex footprints. We then had a day full of activities. These included: Fossil rubbing, fossil molding, ammonite swirls, drawing our own fossils on rocks, making fossil with white straws, carving fossils into potatoes and making prints with paint.

What a fantastic way to start our learning!

Spring 1:

We have had an exciting time learning about weather this half term!

We have learnt about the UK and what countries that includes, learning about the continents and their names.

In Maths we have been learning to subtract and add, also learning how to measure length and height.

In English our book focus has been on 'The Storm Whale'. We have learnt lots of new vocabulary around whales like; pod, beached, fin. We acted out parts of the story and split it into three parts. Using our knowledge of the story, we pretended to be the main character and find the whale ourselves. The children wrote the story in the first person and have taken some pictures with the green screen.
